I’m 7 Months Old on Christmas!!!

Serenity at 7 months old… wow!  The picture above was actually taken on Christmas eve, just one day before she’s 7 months old.

So what’s she been up to lately?

  • She’s amazingly strong
  • She’s been “talking” a lot – trying to make words
  • We finally got her more than one pair of shoes that stay on her feet – size 2
    • BTW she has really cute size 4 and now size 3 shoes for spring and summer (we’re guessing)
      • I bought her 4 pairs of really nice shoes at Robeez.com, used the online measuring printout which clearly said “size 4″ … they showed up and were HUGE!
      • We kept two and sent two back.
      • Then Crystal and I both picked out 2 more pairs of “size 3″ shoes on Robeez.com.  Again they showed up and were still too big.
    • We tried to find her shoes everywhere: Nordtroms, Macy’s, JCPenny’s, Babies-R-Us, and so on… we ultimately found 4 pairs of really nice shoes at Sears (of all places).
    • Crystal made a comment to Serenity about her now having a “respectable” collection of shoes now … this coming from the “Master Shoe Collector” herself.
  • She sleeps in OUR bed every night … uh oh.
    • Chiefly this is because Serenity and Crystal love their mornings together in bed.  They read books and play and gaze at each other.
    • Serenity likes to reach for Crystal throughout the night and especially in the morning.
    • She does sleep in her own bed (crib) until it’s bottle time on many nights and she seems to be just fine with it.
  • Serenity is very independent:
    • She likes doing things herself
    • She doesn’t like anyone grabbing her hands and “showing” her how to do stuff … like push buttons.  She prefers to be show and do it on her own “if she chooses.”
  • She reaches for everything, especially the TV remote
  • She still loves any TV screen, Computer monitor or Cell phone screen.
  • Every time she gets even remotely close to a keyboard she becomes very determined to push some keys
  • She loves the pups… especially Daisy
  • She’s been eating Stage 2 food for almost 2 months now
  • Her favorite food is Sweet Potatoes
  • She had her first meat baby food today… so far she likes Turkey but isn’t crazy about chicken or beef
  • She now has about 8 times more outfits that fit her than her dad does
    • This is partially due to her father being unable to stop buying her clothes & toys and partially due to her father still trying to shed his baby weight
  • Serenity just completed her first Swimming class on December 15th, 2009
    • We’re now looking for somewhere to start more swimming classes
    • She really seemed to enjoy the class
    • It was also fun to see how focused and determined she can be
    • The instructor said she was the best swimmer in the class and she was only 6 months old while the other students where like 1.5 to 2 years old
  • She loves jumping in her “Sassy” doorway jumper
  • She also enjoys cruising around in her walker
    • She still pretty much goes backwards everywhere
  • She loves her baths and has been exclusively in the full bathtub for about 2 months now
  • She’s still a ham for cameras – hope that never changes
  • Both her Daddy & Mommy love her dearly, as do all of her grandparents, cousins & friends
  • Virtually everyone comments on two things, “She’s Gorgeous” and “Such a Good Baby”

We feel very thankful and blessed to have her in our lives.  Both Crystal and I aren’t sure what we’ve done to deserve Serenity but we’re both convinced it must have been something pretty darn good.

We love you baby girl!

Serenity’s First Snow and First Time on a Mountain

IMG_1652, originally uploaded by Robert Bury.

We took Serenity up to Mt. Hood to film our Christmas Video, she loves being outdoors and had fun checking everything out. She also seemed to enjoy a little game of “find my pacifier in the snow daddy” … about 5 times. Somehow daddy kept finding it.

Serenity says, “Hi Dad”

Clear as a bell, Serenity said “Hi Dad” today.  It grabbed my heart and took my breath away all at the same time!  Now it must be said that her first words were “Mamma” and she said that at about 4 1/2 months old.  I heard it, Crystal heard it and I believe Helen heard it.  She said it a few times and it was very slow and deliberate “Maaa Maaaaaa”… no joke.

So I’m recoding this post on the day it happened but I’m actually writing this on Jan 8th, 2010.  She started saying “Dad” and “Da-da” on December 23rd, 2009, just 2 days before her 7 month old mark.  She was so proud of herself she went around saying it to everything for about a good week and a half.  She still says it here and there but she had moved on to other things like saying “Hi Daisy” – Serenity and Daisy (our 4 1/2 year old female boxer) are really good friends.  Daisy likes licking her face and Serenity giggles the whole time.  She loves Major (our 9.8 year old boy boxer) too but Daisy and Serenity share a special bond.

MORE SHOTS!

Serenity's 6 month check upGetting TOO BIG!!!!

Another Doctor’s Appointment and Baby girl had more shots today.  FIVE of them –  YIKES!!!

She weighed 16 lbs. and was 26.4 inches long. (Above average in height and average in weight.)

Her favorite part was the crinkly paper she sat on.  She played with that and made noise the entire time.   She was an angel.
